DAMAGE DEPOSIT POLICY

All money will be refunded if no damage has been incurred to the property, all contents are accounted for and if the checkout procedures have been followed. There will be a quick and simple list of check–out procedures that you can view here on our web site and they will also be posted in the cottage.
All governing strata rules must be followed and violations are subject to fines levied by the strata corporation. Any fines from the strata or from failure to comply with the rental agreement will be deducted from the damage deposit.

IF WE HAVE TO CANCEL

If for reasons beyond our control we have to cancel your reservation or cannot provide the accommodations that you reserved. We promise to notify you promptly and give you a full refund for all monies paid.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES

If you are paying through VRBO, there will be an additional 3% added to your total.  Please note that VRBO as of March 2016 is also charging a service fee to travellers using their site.  To avoid these service fee's and additional charges please utilize e-transfer.

Unlike other rental sites  or hotels we do not charge extra money for resort fees, boat moorage fees, pet fees or Internet use. Be diligent in reading the fine print as many cottage or condo rentals have extra fees. All of your resort fees are included in your rental of our cottage.

                                                    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO STAY AT THE COTTAGE?
In our cottage we are allowed to have a maximum of 6 adults plus 2 children. The age of children is considered to be under 10 years of age.  The number of guests allowed to stay in the cottage is a bylaw imposed by the strata that governs the cottages. The rule is in place to help our septic and water systems NOT to be overtaxed.  Too many bodies in one cottage can cause overload to our eco friendly lakeshore utilities.
Any visitors to guests who are renting the cottage will not be allowed if the total number of people exceeds the strata limits.

CAN I BRING MY BOAT AND IS THERE A BOAT LIFT CHARGE?
Yes, you are more than welcome to bring your own boat, and we do not charge a fee for using the electric boat lift. If you are not comfortable using an electric boat lift we also have a mooring buoy just beyond the main dock.  You may choose to moor you boat at the lift or the buoy.

CAN I LEAVE MY BOAT MOORED TO THE DOCK AND NOT ON THE LIFT?
NO absolutely not! If you are not in your boat you may not leave it tied to the dock. No boat is to be left unattended and tied to the dock.  The strata will strictly enforce this rule. If damage occurs to the dock from your improperly moored boat, you WILL be responsible for for all costs and incurred damages.  While your boat is docked and not in use it must be on the lift and lifted all the way out of the water. This is a strict rule at the cottages so as to avoid any damage to the dock from loose boats or in case of any sudden waves wind or storms. Damage from boats can happen quickly as wind and waves can catch you off guard.  Even if you intend to come into the cottage for a quick break and no one is on the boat YOU MUST MOORE YOUR BOAT ON THE LIFT AND LIFT IT COMPLETELY OUT OF THE WATER. Please carefully read our boat lift policy on our rental agreement page.

WHERE DO I LAUNCH MY BOAT TO GET IT TO THE COTTAGE?
The Easiest place to launch your boat is the boat launch at Fintry Provincial Park.  It is located 12 km past the cottage (or to the north of the cottage). You will need to turn right onto Fintry Delta road  off of Westside Road. The Provincial park is just a minute down this road. There is a very nice level launch within the park.  In case you arrive after 8:00 pm when the Provincial park closes its gates, there is another public launch open at all times further along Fintry Delta road which is also level launch but a bit tighter to turn your vehicle.  There is an advertised boat launch at Lake Okanagan Resort 4 km before the cottage (or south of the cottage) while this is closer to the cottages we do not recommend using it as it is a very steep launch and  very difficult to maneuver your vehicle.

IS THERE A BEACH AT THE COTTAGE?
The shoreline is rocky in front of the cottages, it is helpful to have water shoes if you like to wade in the shallows.

IS THERE PARKING FOR MY BOAT TRAILER?
Yes, after launching your boat you may park your boat trailer across from the property on the other side of Westside Road in the overflow parking. There is no charge for trailer parking. There will be a chain across the parking lot and we will provide you the code with your welcome letter after we receive your final payment.

WHAT PARKING IS PROVIDED FOR CARS?
All parking is on a first come first serve basis at the cottages.  There are 2 paved parking areas that usually accommodate all the vehicles for the cottages. When you arrive and need to unload your supplies you may park in the common loading area at the top of the stairway to the cottages and when you are finished  move your car to a parking spot. There is additional angle parking along the main driveway should the paved parking areas be full but this does not occur often. Boat trailers are not allowed to be parked down the main driveway.

CAN I HAVE A CAMPFIRE?
Secret Point now has an open fire ban throughout the property.  We do have a propane fire pit to enjoy beautiful Okanagan evenings (bevy optional!).

CAN I FISH IN OKANAGAN LAKE?
Yes, many people fish right off the dock at the cottage. There are Kokanee and rainbow trout in these waters. In fact the Kokanee spawn right under our dock. (But not until the fall) A fishing license will be required. You can check with tourism Kelowna about the fishing regulations.

HOW MANY COTTAGES ARE AT SECRET POINT?
The 20 cottages at secret point are all individually owned and operated but must obey our common strata regulations. We as owners take pride in ensuring the cottages are a family oriented vacation property.

HOW BIG IS OKANAGAN LAKE?
Good question! I did my research on this one! It is 135 Km (84 miles) long and 4-5 km (3miles) wide. It stretches from the city of Vernon to Penticton. In some areas the lake is so deep they have not found the bottom.

WHO IS OGOPOGO? DOES HE RELLY EXIST?
Ahhh… you have heard about our famous very elusive lake monster, not to scare the kids, he is considered to be very friendly keeper and guardian to our lake. Ogopogo is a very famous Okanagan Lake legend. The first nations people claim to have spotted him in the waters as early as the 1800’s. They named him N’ha-a-itk. There have been many people that have claimed sightings of Ogopogo for many years. There was even a documentary film crew here in the late 1980’s looking for scientific proof of his existence. So does he really exist? Well, I think you should do your best looking while you are staying here. Bring your binoculars and look out to the lake right before dawn and dusk. Most people spot Ogopogo in the evening or very early morning when the lake is calm. Who knows maybe you could solve our mysterious lake legend?

WHAT BASIC STAPLES WILL THE COTTAGE PROVIDE?
It’s a pain to bring every little thing to do some basic cooking, so we keep a few staples stocked for you. There is a full spice rack, salt pepper, and seasonings  for your use. You will also find sugar, plastic wrap, foil, dish soap, sugar, garbage bags, recycle bags and much much more.....there will be a list included with your welcome letter which is sent after your final payment is made.

IS THERE DAILY MAID SEVICE?
This is one of the comforts you give up to have the peace and tranquility atmosphere! There is no daily maid service but the cottage is professionally cleaned and stocked in between each guests stay. There are plenty of linens and towels should you need them. There is also a washer and dryer for your use, but try to relax and be in vacation mode (no laundry unless absolutely necessary)

IS THERE WI FI?
For you people who can’t unplug for even a few days, yes, there is satelite wifi and the code will be listed in the cottage.

WHAT BEACH SUPPLIES DO WE NEED TO BRING?
Bring whatever extras you feel you will need. Water shoes are a must have if you like to stand and wade in the shallow water, the rocks are tough on the toes.
We have some basic beach supplies, chairs (4), towels and pool noodles. We also have a few floaties, beach balls, pails and shovels for you to use. There is an air pump in the bin on the lower deck with the lake toys. There will be a flashlight and roasting sticks for the fire pit on hand as well. We would like you to keep the beach towels for the beach and the washroom towels for the washroom. This keeps the wear and tear on our new bath towels to a minimum. There are very handy hooks for you to dry your beach towels at the lower patio level.

HOW DO I GET THE KEY?
Once we have received your payment in full we will give you the code for the keyless entry.

DOES THE COTTAGE HAVE A/C?
No, we do not have air conditioning in the cottage. There is no forced air system and the heat is by electric baseboard. The cottage does not get as hot as most places in Kelowna due to the fact that the sun sets behind the mountain behind the cottage. Because we do not get direct sun in the evening the cottage doesn’t heat up too much and the breeze off the lake cools things down inside. We do have fans in all the bedrooms to help circulate the air.

WHAT ENTERTAINMENT SUPPLIES ARE AT THE COTTAGE?
You can’t spend quality family time without annoying board games and cards! We have a supply of games , puzzles, books and a great collection of movies for you to enjoy. Just make sure all the disks are back in their cases and the little pieces are all back in their boxes when you are finished beating your parents.
